I am the artist behind the brush at Bits and Breyers Studio. I view each piece as a privilege to immortalize the beauty and realism of horses. I've collected model horses since middle school and started customizing them shortly after that! Art has always been a part of my life, but I never really had a medium that felt right to me until I found model horses. I prefer painting a three dimensional model over a flat canvas. I strive for realism in my work, so I am always growing and learning how to make my models look as accurate and close to life as possible!
In my free time I volunteer at a therapeutic riding facility where I get my real horse fix! I feel like spending time with real horses several days a week helps me to understand my own art both inside and out. By watching their movement, feeling their hair patterns, and becoming attentive to the small details that make them unique, I'm able to translate those qualities into my model horses.
I personally enjoy working on minis and micro minis the most; the smaller the better! I think that details on the little guys are so much fun even though they take me even longer to paint and cause my eyes to twitch if I stare at them too long! The payoff is definitely worth it to me though.
I'm currently completing my Bachelor's degree in Film and Video Production so my schedule in the studio is not as consistent as I would like it to be so I am currently not accepting new commissions at this time. I try to paint at least once a month while I'm in school, and during breaks I make up for the lost time. The struggle of a college hobbyist, right? I truly miss spending as much time painting models as I used to a few years ago, but I've learned to appreciate the little time I do get in the studio even more now!
So with that in mind, keep a lookout on my Model Horse Sales Pages account for new sales pieces often! I try to get a few out each month so I can continue advancing my art even if it is at a slow pace. I always look forward to hearing how my work shows, so please feel free to message me through any of my social media or contact forms to update on how a model of mine is doing in the show ring, it absolutely makes my day to hear about your winnings!
I've been collecting since 2016 and love adding sentimental models to my shelves!
There is something so gorgeous about a buckskin to me! I adore painting this color because there are so many routes it could go; dark, light, dappled, pinto, the options are endless!
